Creative Birthing - Part 01

Creativity is a life force. It runs through you; it runs around us—it’s an energetic field that we can tap into. I have been working with the energy of creativity my whole life. I have experimented with it and tested what conditions it needs to thrive.

Creativity requires boundaries to retain its potency—edges to push up against and to be contained within. For me, these edges can be the size of a canvas or the brief of an interior design project. Without edges, Creativity evaporates.

At Be-Kin, we develop creative ideas through a simple 4-step process. 4 is a powerful number. It is grounding and stabilising, which helps support Creativity vibrationaly.

This 4-step process can be applied to any creative project:

1.        Project Brief & Inception

2.        Concept Design

3.        Developed & Detailed Design

4.        Final Design Submission / Birthing

Please note: At any point, you may feel overwhelmed with ideas—or the opposite, stagnant. Do the Clearing Activity if this happens (details below).

Stage 1: Project Brief & Inception
Define the project restrictions, boundaries and practical requirements. This will help you shape a ‘Creative Container’ for your creativity to dance within.

Stage 2: Concept Design
Prepare a concept design, which is the overall sketch/outline for the project. On an interiors project, this would include mood imagery, colour palette and layout ideas. For a piece of writing, it could include the chapter headings and key topics to research. The concept design will give you a narrative to work with, or a ‘North Star’ to give direction to your project. Tune into your intuition. Allow yourself to create 1-2 concepts, then pick one to develop in Stage 3.

Stage 3: Developed & Detailed Design
Here you will develop your concept and dive into the details. Be practical here. Think about the project limitations and requirements. This is often the longest phase and requires the most iterations and development.

Stage 4: Final Design Submission / Birthing
This is where the idea becomes real, tangible—you give birth to it and bring it into the material plane. For example, you publish the article, finish the painting or launch your entrepreneurial idea.

Clearing Activity: At times, you may find you are flooded with ideas. This can create feelings of excitement, frustration and anxiety. Or you may feel stuck, stagnant. You can help clear this energy by automatic writing or drawing, to get all the energy out of you. Then you may feel more settled to start the design stages. Please see my Art & Movement Workshop video for inspiration on automatic painting.

This simple 4-step process helps create a boundary for creativity to flourish within. I have witnessed how it produces powerful and practical results. I hope you find it helpful when you birth your next creative endeavour.
