Creative Birthing - Part 02, Intuition.
Amethyst Gate
If you want to live a creative life, listen to your intuition.
Your intuition is a knowledge that exists deep down inside you. It’s different from a ‘gut’ feeling, which can be fueled by fear. Intuition is connected to cosmic knowledge. It helps guide you on your soul path.
In this article, I give you an example of how my intuition helped guide me to birth my daughter.
Fall down a Rabbit Hole
Every so often, something sparks my curiosity. It could be a field of study, a person, a colour, or something else that I can’t quite shake out of my consciousness. This is my intuitive knowledge at work, guiding me.
My intuition reminds me of the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, guiding me down a rabbit hole—often taking me on unexpected adventures. It helps me live a creative life.
Early in my pregnancy, I decided to work with a doula. During one of our sessions, we discussed birthing options and the idea of a home birth. I felt giggly inside. Me? Have a home birth? No way. But my curiosity was sparked.
Research, Alignment and Redirection
I started leaning into my curiosity about home births and began reading books by Ina May Gaskin and Rachel Reed. Sacred Birthing by Sunni Karrel inspired me. Among other things, these books outline how acutely the body responds to its environment during birth and therefore, the importance of feeling ‘safe.’ This fascinated me, as it aligned with my research into sensory design (much of which fuels Be-Kin’s design philosophy). At home, I could control who came through the door and how the room was set up. Rather than harsh hospital lights and antiseptic smells, I could have soft lighting, beeswax candles burning, and the scent of frankincense weaving through the air.
It became clear to me that a homebirth was the right path for me, my fiancé and my daughter. For some, safety might be felt in a hospital—but for me, giving birth in the comfort of my home felt safe and empowering.
The Birth of my Daughter
On June 9th my daughter was born at home. I was supported by my fiancé, our doula and two midwives.
The passage between my waters breaking and holding my daughter on my chest for the first time was incredible. It was a physiological experience of Wonder. It was a pure expression of Creativity.
I am in awe of the deep intuitive knowing of my body to birth my daughter. No intellectualising was required. My body knew what to do, and so did my daughter. Our intuition and creativity danced together.
Listen to your Intuition, Dance with your Creativity.
Each one of us has deep intuitive knowing and power. We can all develop the ability to sense things without the need to intellectualise or clearly articulate WHY. We can just feel it in our bones, in our bodies, in the energetic field around and within us. When we listen to our intuition and weave it into our lives, we live Creatively.
